Description
Sika Waterbars are flexible water stops made from plasticised polyvinyl chloride (PVC-P). They are designed to seal construction and expansion joints in watertight concrete structures. They are commonly used in basements, water reservoirs, sewage treatment plants, swimming pools, retaining walls, lift shafts, tunnels, culverts, and service pits.
- Sika Waterbar® DR EG: These external water bars seal expansion joints in watertight concrete structures. They are suitable for medium levels of hydrostatic pressure and stress, offering high tensile strength, permanent flexibility, and resistance to natural mediums in soil and groundwater that are aggressive to concrete.
- Sika Waterbar® O EG: Designed for internal use, these water bars seal expansion joints within the concrete section. They share similar properties with the DR EG type, including high tensile strength, permanent flexibility, and chemical resistance.
- Sika Waterbar® AR EG: These external water bars are intended for sealing construction joints in watertight concrete structures. They are characterised by high tensile strength, permanent flexibility, and suitability for medium hydrostatic pressure and stress levels.
Sika Waterbars are available in various sizes and profiles to accommodate different construction needs. Profiles like V-15, V-20, and O-20 are among the options offered.
These water bars are designed to stop water from migrating through construction and expansion joints in concrete structures, ensuring the integrity and durability of the build. They are weldable, allowing for secure and continuous joint sealing.
Sika Waterbars: Application Methods
Only butt joints should be formed on-site with Sika Waterbars PVC-P Type V.
Prefabricated from pieces:
Standard form pieces (flat or vertical) for Sika Waterbars PVC-P Type V include cross pieces, T-pieces, and L-pieces.
Prefabricated form pieces help to minimise the required butt joints on-site.
Special form pieces:
Combined form piece systems use combinations of different standard connections and profiles. The standard length is a maximum of 20m, but more extended systems are available upon request.
Handling:
- Careful transport and handling on-site.
- Installation at ambient and water bar material temperatures of ≥ 0°C.
- Protection until the water bar system is wholly cast into the concrete.
- Special care must be taken with the ends of the water bar system.
- Waterbars must be cleaned before casting in.
Application:
Internal water bars are to be installed within the concrete section, and the clearance from the edge of the concrete must be at least half the water bar’s total width.
The relevant method statement and instructions for use provide detailed installation information. Suppose there are significant stresses or challenging concreting conditions. In that case, the water bars can be combined with integrated injection hoses installed locally on the lateral anchoring ribs to allow for later injection/grouting around the cast-in parts.
Jointing on site:
The Sika Waterbars PVC-P Type V are butt jointed by welding. Jointing with adhesives is not permitted. Requirement: Minimum ambient temperature is +5°C and dry weather conditions. Site joints must be formed only by trained and qualified personnel. Available at Ebuild Kenya
